Originator of the centrifugal sand filtration technology, Vortisand® filters have proven themselves for nearly three decades worldwide. Once installed, Vortisand® filters need no attention during backwash and rinse cycles. Vortisand® filters are widely used for various types of applications such as cooling water side stream filtration, water polishing, pre RO treatment, recreational and aquaculture applications. Both applications use the side stream filtration system allowing it to backwash without interrupting the system flow. The fixed percentage of the tower water is by-passed through the VORTISAND side stream filtration system which will filter the equivalent of the total volume several times daily depending on the location and the presence of contaminants. VORTISAND will reduce water treatment chemical cost, eliminate shut downs for descaling and biofouling and will reduce maintenance costs. Continuous side stream filtration shows clear advantages. The total building optimization program reduced the chemical treatment usage, labor and downtime to clean the plate-frame heat exchanger and the entire condenser water system. Proper side stream filtration allowed the building to operate more efficiently by removing all the suspended solids down to 0.45 sub-micron size range. Payback period is less than 2 years. Filtering roughly 3-5% of circulated cooling tower water (side stream filtration) will reduce suspended solids by 80-90% at 5-8cycles of concentration, reducing biocide demand. A filter vendor can run a particle size analysis and recommend a media. Filters should be backwashed with fresh water at least daily. |
